Trasquera is a village with around 190 inhabitants in the province of Verbania - Cusio - Ossola on the border with Switzerland. Iselle at the south portal of the Simplon tunnel also belongs to Trasquera. Trasquera lies on a beautiful sunny terrace at 1100 metres above sea level. The municipality fulfils a key function in securing the Simplon road, which runs through a narrow valley here. The municipality has been accessible by a vertiginous access road since 1970. The ‘Pro Trasquera’ foundation was established in 2024 by Alex Zbinden. It is based in Bern, is constituted in accordance with the Swiss Code of Obligations and is tax-exempt. The foundation aims to strengthen the community's established structures and thereby reduce migration.
